| Welcome to our new students, parents, and staff members, and welcome back to all those who are returning to our school this year. The school day begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 2:50 PM. All students are to report on Wednesday morning by 8:30 AM, and wait outside the school until instructed by staff member where to enter and report. If your child is new to the school and has not yet received a class assignment or room number, he or she will be given the information when they enter the building for a brief orientation. Parents may accompany their children to school, but will not be allowed inside the building with them. Yellow school buses are only available for 6th grade students who live in the vicinity of P.S. 12 area. Although buses will be operating on the first day of school, it is recommended that you bring your child to the school rather than wait for a bus in the morning, as pick-up times will be uncertain. Afternoon buses will be provided to take the sixth grade students home, and a list of bus stop locations will be available outside the school on the first day. Both pick-up and drop-off times for these buses may vary during the first two weeks of school, so it is best to ask the driver about approximate times for the bus arrival. Students who are entitled to Metro Cards will receive them during the first few days of school. Metro Cards are provided only to students in grade 7 and 8 who meet the distance requirements of living more than one mile , but less than 1.5 miles, from school (half-fare Metro Card), or more than 1.5 miles from school ( full fare Metro Card. These cards are issued by the Department of Transportation, and are not subject to change by the school. Both breakfast and lunch for all students at I.S. 125 is free. However, parents are still required to complete and return the Department of Education's Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals which will be sent home with students during the first or second week of school. All students will also receive blue emergency cards which must be completed by parents or guardians. Even if your child is not new to our school and no information on the card has changed, you must submit a new card at the beginning of every school year. Notices for Morning Tutoring will be distributed to all students (other than those in honors classes) during the first few days of school. Parents are advised to sign the form which gives permission for their children to attend morning tutoring classes everyday from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. These enrichment classes will begin shortly after the start of school and continue until June. These small group classes provide an excellent opportunity for your children to receive additional academic support throughout the year. All students will receive a student Agenda Book on the first day of school. The cost of this book is $5.00. Every student is required to use this book to record homework assignments, test and project information, and any other pertinent school related matters. Parents should read, sign, and return the letter that will be sent home with the Agenda with the $5.00 payment as soon as possible. An I.S. 125 Parent Handbook will be also be sent home with students at the same time, for parents' use as a date book and as a reference for all school policies. This book is our gift to you, and there is no charge for it. This website will be updated regularly with school news and other information. Please check it often. In addition, your children will be given many letters and notices from the school, as well as a monthly newsletter to help keep you informed about what is happening in the school. Please check you child's schoolbag for these notices.
