Eighth Grade Trip to Washington, D. C.

I.S. 125 is planning a trip to Washington, D.C. from Wednesday
April 4th to Friday April 6, 2012 for all eligible eighth grade
students
.  This three-day, two-night trip may include visits to the
monuments, Arlington National Cemetery, various museums in The
National Mall, Union Station, the Capitol, and the White House.  Please
note: According to US Government regulations, any person visiting the
White House must provide photo identification and a social security
number, prior to the visit.   Space is limited to a maximum of 88
students.
The cost for each student will be $ 300.  This price
includes round trip bus transportation to and from I.S. 125, hotel
accommodations (including gratuities), admission to all attractions, most
meals, and transportation throughout the D.C. area.  In addition,
students will receive I.S. 125 T-shirts which must be worn on all
excursions.

I
n order for your child to be allowed to participate in this trip, he
or she must comply with the following requirements:
-Earned passing grades in all subjects
-Maintain an excellent behavior and attendance record
-Must obtain recommendations from all subject teachers
-Must obtain approval from his or her house Supervisor, Guidance
Counselor, and Dean
-Return a completed permission form, signed by a parent or legal
guardian
Student participation will be subject to final approval by Ms. Mittler.

Although the trip will not take place until April, it is necessary to plan for
it now in order to reserve the hotel and buses, and to pay the
prerequisite deposits.  Therefore, if you are interested in having your
child be a part of this unique and exciting opportunity, we are
requesting that you complete the  form that was sent home with all
eighth grade students last week, and return it to the school with a
deposit of $150 by Friday December 2nd.   This deposit must be paid
by cash or money order (payable to I.S. 125).  No personal checks will
be accepted.  This deposit of $150 is fully refundable up until February
17th. The balance of the money will be due by Friday February 17th,
after which date no refunds will be made.

In order to further explain the details of this trip, and to answer any
questions you may have, we are hosting a parent meeting on
Wednesday November 30th at 6 PM.   Attendance at this meeting will
help you to make a more informed decision as to whether or not you
would like your child to participate in this trip.  Once again, if you wish
your child to be a part of this trip, the initial payment of half of the total
trip cost is due by December 2nd.  The final payment of the balance of
$150 is due and payable by February 17th, at which time, unless a child
is barred from participation in the trip by Ms. Mittler, no refunds will be
made.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Mr. Robert
Quintana, Assistant Principal, or Heather Strafer, Parent Coordinator at
the school number of 718 937-0320.  We look forward to your child’s
participation in this exciting and educational event.
