Join the Rally at I.S. 125  to Protest
the Budget Cuts to Education

On Thursday March 4th, representatives of the Alliance for Quality
Education, the United Federation of Teachers, local elected officials,
the press, I.S. 125 staff, parents, and students will join together in
front of our school at
3 PM as part of a statewide day of action
against the Governor's proposed budget cuts to the schools.  Our
education system cannot withstand the devastating cut of  the 466
million dollars the Governor plans to include in his new budget.

Parents!  Please join us on
Thursday March 4th at 3PM to show
Albany our determination
not to accept any additional funding cuts
that will so negatively impact our children.  We must be unified in our
protest against these cuts, and force  the Governor  to accede to our
demands to strengthen our educational system, and not to continue
to undermine it.

This rally will only last for 20 to 30 minutes.  It is
imperative that all
parents and community members be there to lend their support.

PLEASE!  BE OUTSIDE OF I.S. 125 ON THURSDAY MARCH 4TH
AT 3:00 PM TO JOIN US IN THE FIGHT TO SAVE OUR
SCHOOLS AND THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN!

Evening Parent Teacher Conference
Re-Scheduled

Although last week's
afternoon Parent Teacher conference took
place on February 25th, the evening conference was suddenly
cancelled by the Mayor due to snow.  Unfortunately, the school was
not notified about this cancellation until 12:45 PM, an hour after the
students were dismissed for the day.  Because of this, we were
unable to send home letters or make announcements to the
students,  so that parents would be aware of the cancellation.  We
regret any inconvenience this may have caused you,  but we had no
way of notifying parents about this in advance.

The new date for the evening Parent Teacher Conference will be
Thursday March 11th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
.  Please see the
information below to learn about the new system that will be
implemented at this conference.

New System for
Upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences

The evening Parent Teacher Conference has been rescheduled to
Thursday M
arch 11th.  This year, due to parents' requests, the
system for the evening conferences has been changed.  Now, the
evening conference, like the afternoon, will require NO
APPOINTMENTS to see the teachers.

For the past several years, it was necessary for parents to go first to
the cafeteria to make appointments with their children's subject
teachers.  Now, parents may instead go directly to the rooms of the
teachers they wish to see beginning at 6:00 PM , and sign in on
separate lists to see each of the  teachers.  All conferences, both
afternoon and evening, will be done on a first-come, first-served
basis.

Although [parents no longer have to arrive before conferences start
to make appointments, they will still need to arrive early in order to
see all of their children's teachers.  Conference times will still be
limited to five minutes per parent per teacher,  although additional
time may be requested through a private appointment at a later date.
Please note: any parents who sign in for a particular teacher, and
are not there when their names are called, will have to sign at the
bottom of the list for a new time.  Under no circumstances will
parents be allowed to cut the line and see a teacher if they missed
their original turn.

Parent Teacher Conferences will take place  in the
evening only on
March 11th
from 6 PM until 8:30 PM.  Parents are invited to come
into the cafeteria beginning at 5:30 PM to pick up the room
assignments for the teachers, and to purchase hot Papa John's
Pizza, coffee, cake, snack, and drinks from the PTA.

Parents will also be able to pick up their NYC School Survey form
which, if completed  and returned that e
vening  will entitle their child
to a free ice cream coupon, courtesy of the PTA of IS 125.   These
surveys will be available from the Parent Coordinator
in the cafeteria
throughout the conference times.

The PTA also needs your support of their sale through donations of
homemade or store purchased items for the sale.  All donations may
be dropped off at the school in the morning by students in room
414A
.   Please help support school activities through your donations
to the PTA, and through your purchases from them  on the night of
Parent Teacher Conferences.

Students! Vote For The Best Class Jump Page

Many teachers in our school have created their own class jump
websites.  In order to determine which teacher has the best site,
the students are being asked to vote for their favorite.

Starting December 1st,  the students will be given the
opportunity to vote for the best class jump page through the
link on this site.   This contest will last for the entire month of
December,  and statistics will be updated on the bulletin board
outside the main office on a regular basis.  Students may vote
only once for what they consider to be the best page in the
school.

A prize will be awarded for the teacher who comes in  first place
in the  voting, so make sure you check out all of your teachers'
sites before you decide.   May the best site win!

Follow this link to place your vote.

Exciting Opportunity for Eighth Grade
Students!

Once again this year, I.S. 125 will offer  88 eligible eighth grade
students the opportunity to participate in a very special event.  We
are planning a three-day, two-night trip to Pennsylvania in the early
spring.  This is the fourth year our school has offered  overnight
trips for seniors.  During the previous three years, 8th grade
students have had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C.,
Williamsburg, Virginia, and Boston, Massachusetts.

This year students and staff members will visit Philadelphia and
Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  The trip will take place from Thursday
March 25th to Saturday March 27th.  The cost of
the trip, which
includes hotels, buses, admissions, and some meals,  will be $300
per student.

There are still a few spaces available on this trip.  Contact Mr.
Quintana or the Parent Coordinator to reserve your place today!
